Nonagonal Thailand Coin
As highlighted in a table on my Odd-Shaped Coins page, the country of THAILAND issued one unusually shaped coin design. Thailand is located in the Indochina region of Southeast Asia. It is west of Cambodia and Laos, north of the Malay Peninsula part of Malaysia, and east of Myanmar (Burma). Laos and Myanmar also touches Thailand's northern border. The capital and largest city is Bangkok. The coin that is shaped like a nonagon - meaning it has nine sides - was only issued in the year 1972; the Thai calendar year of the coin is 2515. According to the World Coin Price Guide by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), there were more than 30 million coins minted. The reverse of the coin shows the mythical creature named Garuda, which is also Thailand's national emblem. Rama IX is the ruler shown on the coin's opposite side.
