Nicaragua Banknotes
Located in Central America to the south of Honduras and north of Costa Rica, NICARAGUA has access to the Pacific Ocean along its western coast and the Caribbean Sea along its eastern coast. The currency of Nicaragua is the Nicaraguan Cordoba. 100 Centavos make up 1 Cordoba. The banknotes featured above, which are no longer in circulation, are denominated as 1 Centavo ('Un Centavo de Cordoba') and 5 Centavos ('Cinco Centavos de Cordoba'). The male figure on the obverse side of the banknotes is the founder of Nicaragua, Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba; obviously the name of Nicaragua's currency comes from his last name! The reverse of the banknotes show the emblem of Nicaragua and the national flower, which is the Sacuanjoche. Click on the images above to view them larger.
