Once in a while, numismatists come across coins featuring a rather peculiar denomination. The 7,500 Francs of the REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO, ½ Cent of CYPRUS, ¼ Euro of FRANCE, 2½ Meticais of MOZAMBIQUE, 7½ Emalangeni of SWAZILAND, 7,500,000 Lira of TURKEY, and 4,000 Kwacha of ZAMBIA are several coins with unusual denominations that are extra special because of their odd shapes.
A 2008 coin from TUVALU, however, has a denomination I never seen before. The octagonal coin with 8.88 grams of gold is in a $28 denomination. There are various Chinese characters and symbols, as well as a color-enameled peony. The coin symbolizes wealth, luck, and good fortune.
