Brilliant U.S. Gold Coins Found in California
You may have heard the story about a California couple who unearthed rare, late 1800s American gold coins. The coins, which included $5, $10, and $20 denominations, were contained in six rusty canisters and are worth about $10 million. They have since been restored and certified by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), and the magnificent collection has been called the Saddle Ridge Hoard. Kagin's, Inc., a numismatic company that buys, sells, and appraises coins since 1933, represents the couple who found the coins. In the Kagins interview (link now unavailable), a coin finder described his reaction to finding these coins: "It was a very surreal moment. It was very hard to believe at first. I thought any second an old miner with a mule was going to appear."
