A large former-Soviet Central Asian country, KAZAKHSTAN uses the Kazakhstani Tenge as its currency, which has an ISO 4217 currency code of KZT. Each Tenge equals 100 tïin (diaeresis on the first letter i) or tyin. In the Kazakhstan language, the tyin or tïin can be spelled ТИЬІН capitalized or тиьін lowercase. The images above depict both sides of the 1, 2, 10, and 20 Tyin banknotes of the year 1993. Including the 5 and 50 tyin banknotes I do not have, the obverse side of every 1993 series banknote has a large denomination enclosed in an eight-pointed arabesque star. The reverse side has the denomination on top of an ornamental design located right of Kazakhstan's coat of arms emblem. The top of both banknote sides reveal the National Bank of Kazakhstan's Kazakhstani name, Қазақстан Ұлттық Банкі. Of course, the national bank printed these colorful banknotes.

    Geography
With over 1 million square miles of land, the Republic of Kazakhstan is the world's ninth-largest country. The large saltwater Caspian Sea sits southwest of Kazakhstan, and surrounding countries are China to the east and southeast, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to the south, and Russia to the north and partly to the west. Meanwhile, Mongolia is located to the east but barely touches Kazakhstan. Having a population over 740,000, Astana is Kazakhstan's capital, while Almaty is more populated with about 1.5 million residents.
