The Mediterranean nation of MALTA decimalized its Maltese Lira (Pound) in 1972, the inaugural year for this eight-waved scalloped coin depicting the Maltese cross. On the first day of 2008, the Maltese Lira was replaced with the Euro. According to the NGC World Coin Price Guide (↗), this proof coin weighs 0.95 grams, measures 20.3 millimeters in diameter, and contains aluminum metal. 13,000 proof coins were minted, compared with 30,000 coins in the typical uncirculated finish. Due to comparative rarity, the proof version is valued around US $5; a Mint State 63 coin is valued around $3. 1976 was the only year in which some coins were produced with a matte finish. Interestingly, only 5,000 of these were minted — yet a Mint State 63 version of a matte coin might only bring $2 (although I would not mind buying one for $5).
