    Mintage: 40 million coins with stars on both sides of the year 2000 (this coin), 10 million coins without stars

    NGC coin values: $1.50 (US) in mint state 60 grade, $1.80 MS 63, and $3 MS 65 (values of the coins with stars and without stars are generally the same)

    Obverse: country name at top, José Artigas (general and national hero of Uruguay), his lifespan (1764 to 1850), and outer markings resembling a clock to celebrate the new millennium

    Reverse: “Sean los Orientales tan ilustrados como valientes” (“Let the Orientals [people in the territories of Banda Oriental — or Eastern Bank, which later became modern-day Uruguay] be as enlightened as they are brave”), cornucopia and French horn assayer marks from the Paris Mint, mintage year next to a star on each side, large number/denomination, currency name in Spanish, and José Artigas’ signature
