    Laos 50 Att Coin

A landlocked country in Southeast Asia, LAOS is located east of Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand, north of Cambodia, south of China, and west of Vietnam. Laos, a Communist-run country that boasts wonderful temples like the other Southeast Asian countries, is impoverished and reliant on the Mekong River, its tributaries, and lakes for fishing and hydroelectric power. Therefore, it is easy to see why Laos would honor a fish on one side of its 1980-dated 50 Att coin. Elements of Communism are easily seen on the other side of the coin, which is a national emblem that was used on other coin denominations. The symbols include the hammer-and-sickle, red star, the factory in the background and gear in the forefront (representing industry), and stalks of wheat to the left and right of the factory. The text is in the language of Laotian. Laos' currency is the Lao Kip (symbolized with ₭), of which 1 Kip equals 100 Att.
