    Coins with Birds

Eight coins from Botswana, Eritrea, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Malawi, Nicaragua, South Africa, and Trinidad & Tobago with birds on them

There are plenty of ways to categorize global coins into topics and themes, including a collection about coins with bird illustrations on them. As the Birds on Coins and Daniel's Coin Zoo websites show, there are hundreds of bird coins around the world. Unsurprisingly, numismatists like me have at least one with a bird design. Circulating and commemorative coins from the UNITED STATES of AMERICA are famous for many beautiful Bald Eagle designs. Starting from the top left and going clockwise in the images above and below, other bird coins from around the world include the BOTSWANA 5 Thebe, ERITREA 10 Cents, the Falkland Islands 1 Penny, Gibraltar 1 Penny, MALAWI 2 Tambala, NICARAGUA 5 Centavos, SOUTH AFRICA 1 Cent, and TRINIDAD and TOBAGO 1 Cent. Botswana's 5 Thebe features a species of hornbill, Eritrea's 10 Cents has an ostrich, two Gentoo Penguins are on the Falkland Islands penny, Gibraltar's penny has a Barbary Partridge, Malawi's 2 Tambala has a Paradise Whydah, a dove is on Nicaragua's 5 Centavos coins, two Cape Sparrows are on South Africa's penny, and a Copper-Rumped Hummingbird is on Trinidad and Tobago's 1 Cent.
