The teardrop-shaped island country of SRI LANKA produced plenty of odd-shaped coins — especially rounded squares and decagons — as you can see on the Money & Geography Blog's Odd-Shaped Coins page.
The square 5 Rupees commemorative coin of 1976 signifies the Non-Aligned Nations Conference's 5th Summit in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. At the octagon-roofed Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), 85 countries adopted an Action Program for Economic Cooperation — written at this conference to address topics such as debt, exports, food/agriculture, education, and fairer trade. The decagonal 10 Rupees coin of 1987 features the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless logo.
